Buying guide
Where to Buy Imported Fruits in Manila: Berries, Avocados, Apples and Grapes

Blueberries, Hass avocados, crisp apples and seedless grapes are now everyday buys for many Manila households, but quality varies a lot. Imported fruit travels a long way, and fruit that sat too long in a warm display shows it. Here is what to look for and where to buy imported fruit in Manila.
The imported fruits Manila buys most
- Blueberries: firm, dry and dusty blue with no juice in the pack. Avoid soft or shrivelled berries.
- Strawberries: bright red to the stem with fresh green caps. Local Benguet strawberries are excellent in season too.
- Hass avocados: dark skin that yields slightly near the stem when ripe. Buy a mix of ripe and firm so you have avocados all week.
- Apples: Fuji, red and green apples should be firm with no soft spots.
- Grapes: green and crimson seedless grapes should be firmly attached to green stems.
- Kiwi, pears and pomegranate: good for fruit platters and lunch boxes.
Where to buy them
- Upscale supermarkets: good range, but check dates and ripeness.
- Fruit stalls and markets: often cheaper, but storage is not always cold.
- Importers and distributors: fruit that goes from cold storage to your door, the way restaurants and hotels buy it.
Curated Foods is a Manila direct importer and distributor. We supply imported fruit to restaurants and hotels and deliver it to homes and offices in BGC, Makati, Rockwell, Ortigas, Pasig, Mandaluyong and San Juan.
Keeping imported fruit fresh
- Refrigerate berries straight away and wash them only before eating.
- Ripen avocados on the counter, then move them to the fridge to hold them for two or three days.
- Keep apples apart from other fruit; they speed up ripening.
- Store grapes unwashed in the fridge in a ventilated bag.
