Buy Turkey for Your Christmas Dinner in Manila
A roast turkey is the centre of many Christmas and Noche Buena tables in Manila, but finding a good whole turkey in December is harder than it should be. Supermarket freezers run out, sizes are limited and the queue on the 23rd is long. This year you can order your Christmas turkey from Curated Foods and have it delivered to your home, condo or office.
How big a turkey do you need?
Plan on about 500 to 750 grams of whole turkey per guest, more if you want leftovers for sandwiches the next day.
- 4 to 6 guests: a 4 to 5 kg turkey
- 8 to 10 guests: a 6 to 7 kg turkey
- 12 guests or more: an 8 kg turkey or larger, or two smaller birds, which cook faster and fit standard home ovens
Check your oven before you order. Many condo ovens fit a turkey of up to about 6 kg.
Order early
Turkeys are limited and the best sizes go first. Reserve yours in November or the first week of December. Message us on WhatsApp with the size you want and your delivery date, and we will confirm availability and the price.
Thawing: start days ahead
A frozen turkey must thaw slowly in the fridge, never on the counter in Manila heat. Allow about one day in the fridge for every 2 kg. A 6 kg turkey needs about three days, so a bird delivered on 20 or 21 December is ready for Christmas Eve.
Simple roasting tips
- Pat the turkey dry, season inside and out, and rub butter under the skin of the breast.
- Roast at about 165 to 175°C. As a guide, allow roughly 40 to 45 minutes per kilo for an unstuffed bird.
- The turkey is done when the thickest part of the thigh reaches 74°C on a meat thermometer.
- Rest it for 30 minutes under foil before carving. The juices settle and the meat stays moist.
Complete the Christmas table
