Fruit Delivery in Metro Manila: Avocado, Mango and Berry Guide

Fruit is one of the easiest things to add to a vegetable delivery, but it is also the most sensitive to ripeness. Here is how to get it right.
Hass avocado
Hass avocados darken from green to almost black as they ripen. A ripe one gives slightly when pressed gently near the stem. If you need avocados for several days, order them at different stages and write it in the order notes, for example "2 ripe for tomorrow, 2 firm for the weekend".
To speed up ripening, keep firm avocados in a paper bag at room temperature. Once ripe, move them to the fridge to hold them for two or three more days.
Mango
Philippine mangoes are ripe when they smell sweet at the stem and give a little when pressed. Ripen them on the counter, then refrigerate. Green mangoes are best kept at room temperature for eating with bagoong.
Strawberries and blueberries
Berries are delicate. Refrigerate them as soon as they arrive, keep them unwashed in their container, and wash only what you are about to eat. Eat strawberries within two to three days.
Citrus
Lemons, limes, oranges and calamansi keep for a week or more in the fridge. Roll them on the counter before squeezing to get more juice.
