Christmas
Noche Buena and Christmas Grocery Order in Metro Manila

From mid-December, supermarkets in Metro Manila are packed, parking is impossible and favourite items sell out. The easiest way to prepare Noche Buena and Christmas lunch is to plan your list early and have it delivered.
A Noche Buena checklist
The main dish
- Whole turkey (see how to order a Christmas turkey)
- Beef for roast beef or steak, such as USDA ribeye
- Pork for lechon kawali or roast, and chicken
- Seafood: prawns, salmon and fish for a lighter dish
The cheese and charcuterie board
- Serrano or Ibérico ham
- Imported cheeses
- Olives, capers and sun-dried tomatoes
- Grapes, apples and pears
Sides and salads
- Potatoes, carrots, green beans and onions for roasting
- Romaine, arugula and lollo rosso for a salad
- Fresh herbs: rosemary, thyme, parsley
Pantry
- Extra virgin olive oil, balsamic vinegar and mustards
- Pasta, flour and baking basics for the spaghetti and desserts
Fruit for the table
Grapes, apples, oranges, ponkan and pomelo are the classic round fruits many families put on the table for the New Year too.
When to order
- Late November to early December: reserve turkey, ham and anything imported.
- One week before: send your pantry and frozen items.
- Two days before: fresh vegetables, salad greens, herbs and fruit, so they are at their best on the night.
Splitting the order into two deliveries keeps produce fresh and means less to store in the fridge.
